Top 4 Tips for Make-Up Decluttering

Did you know that make-up has a shelf life of between 3 months and 2 years depending on what it is - this means that almost all of us have out-of-date / expired products somewhere in our home……..

Now let’s face it ……… make-up is expensive and we are unlikely to purge our stash on a regular basis (particularly if like me, you buy make-up so rarely that almost everything has been hanging around for ages!!).

However, there is no point hanging on to nail varnish colours you don’t like, mascaras that are gloopy or hundreds of different coloured eye-shadows that were great in our 20’s but not so great in our 40’s.

Once a year, it’s worth having a look to see what’s still there and what doesn’t need to still be there:

  1. Separate out what a) you wear every day b) you wear occasionally (party make-up!) and c) what you never wear.

  2. Discard anything that is dried out, any lipsticks that are completely worn out or anything you don’t wear.

  3. Put your every day make-up in a bag and have it accessible so you use it - by a mirror and some good light! If you don’t see it, you’re not going to use it.

  4. Put your “occasion” make-up in a separate bag but don’t hide it away so you forget where it is - see above point 3 re use!

PS - I would also clean out your make-up bags(s) so they are not covered in old powder / foundation or anything else that has spilt.

Wouldn’t it be great if you could do something with all that old make-up.
Did you know that @macmkup take back all empty primary packaging and you can exchange 6 old containers for a new lipstick? 💄What a result!

I for one have made a conscious decision that all my make-up from now in will be MAC as they seem to be the only ones who do anything about recycling their packaging.

For anything that you bought on a whim and are never going to put on again, why not send it to Give and Makeup, a not for profit initiative started by @carolinehirons, whose sole purpose is to get everyday essentials into the hands of women who need them the most.
This means nothing goes in to landfill.
